"All things are full of signs, and it is a wise man who can learn about one thing from another." - Plotinus

I cleared the landscaped area outside the library, picked up all dead leaves and trash. The protocol involved the notion that if I saw it, I needed to deal with it. That meant no matter how fatigued I was, or how small the decayed chewing gum wrapper underneath the tree root was, I needed to pick it up and throw it away. After clearing the area, I placed white river rocks along the existing stone fencework, creating a spatialized gesture drawing, viewable from outside and from within the library. I worked with a professional sign company and affixed the phrase "to advance in a given direction" on the stairwell / atrium window looking out at the landscape.
